Solomon Moore Obituary

Solomon Moore, Sr., the son of the late Ms. Mary Carter Moore and Rev. Charlie Moore was born October 31, 1922, in Delray Georgia. He peacefully departed this life on January 24, 2023. He spent most of his life in Coolidge, GA, and resided several years as a child in Boston, GA, and later in life in Thomasville, GA. He spent his last years as a proud resident of the Presbyterian Home in Quitman, GA where he passed.

Solomon was a faithful member of New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church and served as a deacon and a member of the music ministry where he played the tambourine. He also affiliated with St. Paul Temple Church Of God In Christ and fellowshipped with other congregations in his community. He was known as an avid walker and continued strolling in his wheelchair until death. During Solomon’s early years, he was frequently called upon to walk long distances to summon midwives and other health providers for community members in need. He enjoyed a good cigar and joyriding in classy cars and visiting friends in the country.

In addition to his parents, family members predeceasing Solomon in death included his three siblings, Ida Mae Newton, Henry Newton, and Willie Moore; wives, Hattie Mae Mays, and Crissie Mae
Moore; two of his four children, son Willie Jr. Stewart and daughter Hazel Moore Wilkes; and daughter-in-law Gloria (Fred). He is survived by his sons, Fred Moore of Westminster, CA, and Solomon Moore Jr. (Valerie) of Pasadena, CA.

He was adored and cherished by his 8 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 24 great-great-grandchildren, including Shannon D. Stewart and Bernadette Smith of Coolidge whom he raised. He was also loved by a host of nieces and nephews.
