Lonnie Murphy Obituary

Lonnie Murphy was born February 12, 1953 in Thomasville, Georgia to the late Guyte, Sr. and Lucille Murphy Smith. He was adopted by his grandparents the late Lonnie and Fannie Murphy.

At an early age in life, he joined the New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church. He later moved his membership to First Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Dr. I.L. Mullins. He served as a member of the Guiding Light Club.

He was a 1971 graduate of Douglass High School. Lonnie worked at Southwestern State Hospital for 30 years.

He was a loving Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle and Cousin. Lonnie was a compassionate person that never complained.

Lonnie “PAPA” Edward Murphy leaves to mourn his passing his son: Toriano “Darryll” (Audrey) Murphy; Grandson: Jerraill (Sarah) Murphy; Granddaughter: Chelsea Murphy; Great-Granddaughters: Sierrah and Lelah Murphy.

Siblings: John Murphy, Leroy (Janice) Harris, Harriett Smith, Shirley Weaver Jackson, David Burke, Susie Pearl Tillman, Gertrude Dunlap and Nancy Vickers.

Nieces and Nephews: Anthony (Marilyn) Thompson, Derrick (Tina) Smith, Sr., Hiram (Claudia) Thompson, Jr., Stephanie Kaye Thompson, Stanley (Katrina) Smith, Stephan (Devona) Thompson, Tiffany Smith (BEEZY), Chansidy (Shan) Daniels, John Murphy, Jr., Shawn Murphy, Quanda (Merrill) Baker, Leroy Harris III, Janae Harris, LaNita Dennis, Latoya Derrick, Antonio Harris, Latonya (Cierra) Williams, Kannca Driver, Lisa Jackson King, Keesha (Steven) Reynolds, Jobe (Amber) Crawford, Jarrun (Jackie) Crawford, Hope (Tyjah) White, Delores (Jonathon) Curry, Akeem (Nedria) Brooks, Osha (Ron) Dillard and Tori Ransom.

Extended Family: Ricardo (Yvonne) Bowdry, Sharon (Jimmy) Vickers and Deborah Reed.

Devoted Family Friends: Jigar (Jig) Lotto Conner, Mona Wade, The Wade Family, Mr. Andrew and the School Ave. Families.

Devoted Caretakers: Ernestine, Carla Williams, Kathleen Samuel, Kieanna Samuel, David Long Windie (Racquel) Davis, Family Health Care and Pruitt Health Care Hospice.

A host of great-nieces, great nephews, cousins, other extended family and friends.

Lonnie was preceded in death by his his Life Partner: Johnnie Bowdry, his mother: Marie Thurman, Sisters: Carolyn (Hiram) Thompson, Ethel Crawford, Sheila Driver; Brothers: Ira L. Flowers and Guyte Smith, Jr.
