Ms. Wilma Ashley Franklin departed from this world in the early morning of Tuesday, March 5, 2024, to join our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Ms. Wilma Franklin was born on January 4, 1940, in Danville, Georgia, to the late James Ashley and Elizabeth Lowther Jones.
Wilma graduated from Twiggs County High School in Twiggs County. After high school, she attended Fort Valley State College and Talladega College. Wilma worked as a schoolteacher at Danville Middle School and Twiggs County High School. She was also a dedicated worker at the Port of Miami. She accepted Christ at an early age. Later in life, she moved her Christian membership to New Shield of Faith in Atlanta, Georgia. She was intelligent, articulate, sporty, a jazzy dresser, and loved her hats. Wilma enjoyed family gatherings and was a devoted mother and grandmother to her daughter, Stephanie, and Stephanie's children, Shanterria, Jamarcus, Nicholas, Zion, and Mason, as well as to her great-grandchildren. She loved spending time with her dog and gardening, fishing, traveling, shopping and spending time with family.
Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, James Ashley and Elizabeth Lowther Jones, her husband, Frank Franklin, and son Jeffery Lamar Franklin.
She leaves to cherish her memories one son, Erroll Geoffrey Frankllin of Atlanta, Georgia; one daughter, Stephanie (James) Carmichael of Atlanta, Georgia; Brother Emmett (Irene) Ashley, of Danville, Georgia; her grandchildren Shanteria "Shay" Franklin, Jamarcus (Linda) Franklin, Nicholas Franklin, Zion Franklin, and Mason Bivens all of Atlanta, Georgia; Endia (Glen) Gosier of Dixie, Georgia; Jarvis (Mitia) Franklin of Macon, Georgia; great-grandchildren Glen Jr., Grant, and Grayson Gosier, all of Dixie, Georgia; Jordin and Braydin Franklin, both of Macon, Georgia; Skylar, Jamarcus Jr., and Jamir Franklin all of Atlanta, Georgia. Nephews Michael Ashley and Malcolm Ashley, nieces Toney(Willie) Jenkins of Danville, Georgia; Lauren Watts, Morgan Ashley, Heather Ashley. Her pet dog Snow, and a host of family and friends. A special friend, Clifford "Big Papa" Bates.
