Willie James Weatherspoon

Willie James Weatherspoon was born March 8, 1934, in Beachton Georgia to the late Sylvester and Hattie Weatherspoon.  Willie attended school in Beachton and began working at a very early age.

It was in Beachton that Willie, nickname Fetty, met the love of his life, Jacqueline Yellock.  In 1953 they were married and a year later they moved to New York.

In 1961, they had their first son, Anthony James Weatherspoon.  Followed by Kevin Efren Weatherspoon in 1963 and rounding off the bunch in 1965, Eric Christopher Weatherspoon.

Willie worked as a cook, first at Northshore Hospital, then at Queens General Hospital, both in New York.  He remained in that industry until his sight began to fail him.

Willie was a faithful member of Rush Temple AME Zion Church in Jamaica, NY where he sang in the gospel choir.  Singing was his joy and his ministry.  He is most famously known for singing his rendition of “Life is a ball game” by Sister Wynona Carr.

Willie was proceeded in death by his love Jacqueline, on January 29, 2015.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his younger sister Evelyn Coleman of Thomasville; His sons Anthony Weatherspoon (New York), Kevin Weatherspoon (South Carolina), and Eric Weatherspoon [Lisa] (New York); Grand-Children Charlene Weatherspoon, Olivia Weatherspoon, Antoneke Weatherspoon, Kevin Weatherspoon Jr., Jazzelle Bonilla, Jahmel Weatherspoon, Julius Weatherspoon, Ja’Nelle Weatherspoon, Myles Weatherspoon, Erica Jimenez, Taylor Weatherspoon, Sidney Weatherspoon, and Torrey Heard; 12 Great-Grandchildren and a host of Nieces, Nephews, Relatives, and Close Friends

He was preceded in death by brothers Clarence Weatherspoon, Herbert Weatherspoon Sr., And Isaac Weatherspoon; Sisters Louise Parrish and Earnestine Watts.
