Reflection of Life

Walter Louis Belle, age 83, passed away surrounded by the love of family, leaving behind a powerful legacy of devotion, strength, and unwavering love for his people. Mr. Belle was an industrious man, known for his strong work ethic and his belief in providing for and protecting those he loved. He was a man who never met a family member he didn’t claim—if you were connected to him in any way, you were embraced, supported, and considered his own. His life was a living example of what it means to stand for family.

Above all, Walter was a family man. His love extended across generations, and he took pride in ensuring that everyone felt seen, valued, and connected. Whether through his guidance, his presence, or his willingness to show up, he made it clear that family was everything.

He is survived by his loving wife, Pastor Janice Belle, and his children: Stanley Sneed (Lisa), Walter Louis Belle Jr. (Eugenia), Bobbie Joe Belle (Luz), and James Curtis Belle, along with his bonus children, whom he loved as his own: Modrickquezs Calhoun, Floyd Calhoun, Jacqueline Lea, and Dominique Rauls (Adrian). Together, they carry forward his name and legacy.

He is also survived by his siblings: Maryam Muhammad, Elsie Belle, Sandra McClure, and Jerry Belle; his sisters-in-law: Co-Pastor Janet Canters (Rene) and Cynthia Kyler (Anderson); along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family members whose lives were touched by his love and generosity.

Walter was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Martina Mildred Martin (Stacy); his grandsons, Walter Louis Belle III and Na’im Tashir Boykin; his parents, Sim Belle and Emma Ree Mitchell Shelley; his sister, Maryetta Belle; and his brothers, Nathaniel Maxwell and Robert Sherman Maxwell.

Walter Louis Belle will be remembered for his strength, his dedication, and the way he brought people together. He leaves behind not just memories, but a legacy of unity, loyalty, and love that will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His life reminds us that family is not just something you are born into -- it is something you build, protect, and cherish every day.
