Robert Petty was born in Dawson, GA on October 18, 1942, to the late Robert Petty, Sr. and Ethel Mae Everett. He attended school in the Terrell County School District and later moved to Thomasville, GA. He spent many years working as a truck driver at Lewis Produce Company and Steve Miller Produce Company.
He was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Mildred Petty. Also preceded in death were 6 siblings: Mary Alice Drake, Ruby Lee Hadley, Bennie Frank Everett, Johnny Drake, Jr., Annie Lisa, and John H. Petty.
Mr. Petty was a member of First Unity Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Charlie Ross. He enjoyed socializing with other truckers at the Farmers Market and took pride in taking care of his loved ones and others. He also enjoyed spending time at family gatherings, traveling to different cities to dine, listening to gospel music and fishing. He was known for his sense of humor, and straightforwardness. But above all he was known for his kind heartedness, loving spirit, and endless love for his family.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories and celebrate his life, a devoted, loving companion, and best friend of 50 years, Ms. Frances Hollis of Quitman, GA. Five children, Robert Petty, Thomasville, GA; Carla Petty, Spartanburg, SC; Darryl Guyton, Saint Petersburg, FL; Vanessa (Bobby) Ivey, Boston, GA; Jewel Wilson, Thomasville, GA. 14 Siblings; Etta Trutlin, Edna Mathews (Charlie Frank), Leroy Everett, Ulysess Everett (Georgia), all of Thomasville, GA; Charlene Everett, Valdosta, GA; Dorthy Colson (Keith), Green Cove Springs, FL; Patricia (Russell) Jackson, Atlanta, GA; Ollie (Cassandra) Petty, Albany, GA; Ralph (Georgine) Petty, Albany, GA; Otis (Yvetta) Petty, McDonough, GA; Nella (Earl) Burrell, Barrigada, Guam; Ray Petty, Stockbridge, GA; Darren Petty, Snellville, GA; and Denise Fleming, Albany, GA.
He also leaves 1 special uncle; Frank Buchanan (Jewel), Pflugerville, TX and 1 sister-in-law: Kathy Drake, Ft Pierce, FL and 1 brother-in-law Carlton Hadley, Sr., Atlanta, GA, and a host of caring grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friend.
