“Let not your heart be troubled Ye believe in God, believe also in me.” Reverend Joseph Hankins was the son of the late Reverend Nehemiah Harold (N.H.) and Mary Gloster Hankins. He was born July 15, 1937 in Thomas County, Georgia. He departed this life December 22, 2021 at Capital Regional Medical Center, Tallahassee, Florida. He accepted Christ at an early age and began his ministry by joining Glasco African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) Church. He was ordained and licensed to preach in the African Methodist Episcopal Church, December 4, 1984 by Elder Thomas J. Isom. He was a devoted and faithful servant. He has served as a Pastor at several churches down through the years; Glasgow and Saint John A.M.E. Churches in Boston, Georgia; Bellview and Saint James A.M.E. Churches in Thomasville, Georgia. He has also served as an Associated Pastor at Rosedale Missionary Baptist Church in Boston, Georgia. He leaves to cherish his memories a loving and devoted wife Lois Cain Hankins; three daughters, Leona Elaine Massey (William), Julie Ann Hankins both residing in Monticello, Florida, Pamela Jane Governal (Kenneth) of Killeen, Texas and one son, Joseph Louis Hankins, Jr., (Olivia) Phenix City, Alabama; grandchildren, Sean, Joshua, Shaumese, Nicole, Brandi, Kyyah, Ayanna, Quillan, Eugenae and Samson; ten great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by sisters Mary Grimes, Indianapolis, Indiana, Naomi B. Smith, Detroit, Michigan and Josephine Peeks, Boston, Georgia; brothers Nehemiah Hankins Washington DC, Samuel Hankins, Indianapolis, Indiana, and Dennis Hankins, Youngstown, Ohio. He is safe in the arms of Jesus, Safe on his gentle breast; There by his love over shadowed. Sweetly his soul shall rest.
