On October 21, 1933 in Thomasville, GA, Emory Harrison Hopkins was born to Ananias and Arleatha Hopkins. He was the seventh child in the family of ten children.
Emory grew up on a farm and became involved in church activities at a young and tender age in his family’s “home church” Springhill Missionary Baptist Church. He attended Thomasville and Thomas County Schools, graduating from Douglass High School in Thomasville in 1953.
Emory earned a B.S. Degree in mathematics from Fort Valley State College, a master’s degree in mathematics from Atlanta University and an educational specialist degree from Valdosta State College. He was licensed and ordained at Springhill Missionary Baptist Church and while in Atlanta, he attended Morehouse School of Religion in 1961.
Rev. Hopkins became Pastor of Mother Easter Baptist Church, Moultrie, GA in 1962 and served as its Pastor for 47 years retiring in 2009. Additionally, Rev. Hopkins worked for Thomasville City Schools Board of Education for 32 years retiring in 1991.
Rev. Hopkins departed this earthly life on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at his residence. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by all siblings with he exception of two. He leaves to cherish his memory a sister: Arleatha Jane Hopkins-Dunbar and a brother: Ananias Hopkins both of Thomasville, GA; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
