Pansy Mae Wyche was born on September 28, 1928, to the late Otis and Pansy Staten. She was one of the first graduates of New Union High School in Boston, Ga. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age at Mt. Homer Missionary Baptist Church, Boston, Ga. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Pansy Mae was well known and loved in the Thomasville/Thomas County community. She worked diligently alongside her husband as proprietors of The Busy Bee Cafe in Thomasville's historic area known as The Bottom. In recent years, the City of Thomasville placed a plaque at The Bottom to commemorate the Busy Bee Cafe. Later, they opened The Teenage Club, which served as a safe hang-out space for teenagers to develop lasting friendships and enjoy delicious food. After the closing of The Teenage Club, they continued serving their community with Wyche's Bar-B-Q.
Pansy Mae was a living example of the woman described in Proverbs 31 as she was never idle. She worked tirelessly cultivating her fields and gardens for crops to feed her family and share with her community. She brought beauty to her home with an assortment of flowers from her gardens and often assembled colorful bouquets for friends and family. She also worked for several prominent families in the community. Well into her nineties, she was still reporting to work for one of these families. She imparted wisdom, love, laughter, and respect to her family and community. She will be lovingly remembered as a strong pillar of faith and perseverance to all who knew and loved her.
Pansy Mae leaves to cherish her legacy a loving husband of 76 years, James J. Wyche, Sr; children James J. Wyche, Jr, Eloise W.
