Louise Edwards Sapp

January 26, 1931 — January 5, 2022

Louise Edwards Sapp was born in Cotton, Mitchell County, Georgia on January 26, 1931 to the late Israel Edwards and Eula B Moreland. She was married to William B. "Bill" Sapp, for 74 years until the time of his passing and together they had 5 children.

She was baptized at an early age at Saco Missionary Baptist Church of Cotton and later served as a faithful Member of St. James Primitive Baptist Church of Thomasville. Throughout her life, she worked on the farm, as a domestic, and cook for Thomasville First United Methodist Church for many years before working exclusively for the Hawkins Family which she proclaimed was her "best job ever."

She had a profound love for family, a heart for service and a firm faith foundation. She recognized the value of education and always made sure there were books in the home to read. Despite the obstacles she faced on her path, it would come as no surprise that she went on to earn her GED during the same year her first born graduated high school. She took great pride in her wall of graduates displayed in the home and was elated when she received the photo of the grandson who declared, "Grandma I'm gonna earn the right to be on that wall." She lived modestly and despite not having a lot, she went out of her way to do what she could to benefit others. She was affectionately called "Mother Sapp" by many and if you came to visit, you could rest assured that you would leave with a full belly and an enriched soul. Whether frying up a hot batch of fires when her grands came to visit or serving up her famous fried chicken, buttermilk cornbread, greens, biscuits, cinnamon rolls or delicious homemade cake, pies, or cobbler, it was ALL made with love.

She enjoyed sewing and made most of her and her daughters' clothes while growing up . She was also resourceful; making beautiful quilts from fabric scraps and canning preserving fresh fruits and vegetables from the garden. Until the onset of dementia she was an active member of The Golden Circle and The Order of The Eastern Star - Amelia Chapter 14 where she previously served as Worthy Matron. She worked diligently to raise funds that provided college scholarships for students who later became educators, administrators, independent contractors, health care workers and a member of Congress.

She is preceded in death by her Husband William B. "Bill" Sapp, Parents, Israel Edwards and Eula B. Shelly; Sister, Louvenia Edwards; Brothers, Leroy and Clifford Edwards; and Son Johnny Sapp.

She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Mamie Jewel (Eugene) Anderson, Wichita, KS, Geraldine Sapp and Wilean Brown, Sarasota, FL, William James (Cathy) Sapp, South San Francisco, CA; Ronnie James (Sandra) Edwards; Sister-In-Law, Lora Lee McClendon, Deerfield Beach, FL; A host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
