Today, January 15, 2022, as we gather to celebrate the life of Lorenzo Lamar Garlin, we reflect on the memory of his love for his family. Lorenzo Garlin was born January 7, 1964, in Thomasville, Georgia. He was the eldest of three children born to the union of Eugene Garlin, Jr. and Pearlie Mae Bush Garlin. Both parents preceded him in death. Having been reared by Christian parents who believed in divine guidance, Lorenzo joined Pleasant Hill Christian Methodist Church at an early age. Lorenzo’s affiliations included being an active member at Pleasant Hill CME Church, and member of the Buffalo Soldiers. Lorenzo’s formative years were spent attending Thomasville High School where he graduated in 1982. After graduation, he attended Morris Brown College in Atlanta, Ga. where he continued being active in the marching band “Marching Wolverines”. Lorenzo, studied Culinary Art and Restaurant and Hotel Management. He returned to Thomasville, Georgia where he worked in several jobs, like Sunnyland, Flowers Bakery, Southwestern State Hospital, and Longhorn, as well as bartending. On August 14, 1990, Lorenzo was united in Holy Matrimony to the former Jennifer Donaldson, sharing 31 years of marriage; two sons were born. Lorenzo worked diligently up until he had to stop to become the care provider for his mother Pearlie Mae Garlin, until her death in May 2020. Prior to his failing health, Lorenzo found a sense of peace, serenity, and relaxation at the family property in Beachton. Another one of Lorenzo’s past-time was to play dominos with his family, and friends, especially with his cousin, Zarita. Also, Lorenzo’s involvement in being a Buffalo Soldier, as he honored and memorialized the veterans on various occasions gave him so much joy. And visiting his brother Eugene in Atlanta, Ga. and sister Cassandra in Huntsville, Al. meant the world to him. After lovingly bidding his family farewell on Sunday, January 9, 2022, Lorenzo quietly and peacefully slipped away into the arms of Jesus. His memory will be greatly treasured by his family and friends. Lorenzo leaves to cherish his memory; his wife, Jennifer; two sons, Christopher L. Garlin and Martin L. Garlin of Thomasville, Ga.; a daughter, Courtney D. Upchurch, of Birmingham, Al.; mother-in-law, Shirley Jones, of Cairo, Ga.; one brother, Eugene Garlin, III (Kimberly) of Douglasville, Ga.; one sister, Cassandra Garlin (Darnell Ford), of Huntsville, Al.; sister-in-law, Jacqueline Thomas, of Cairo, Ga.; brothers- in-law, Charlie Donaldson (Corrine), Bryan Donaldson (Melissa) of Thomasville, Ga.; Liston Donaldson (Tammy), of Greenville, South Carolina; grandchildren, Jassiah Garlin of Cairo, Ga., Mckenzie Garlin and Triston Garlin of Atlanta, Ga., and De’Marion Garlin of Thomasville, Ga. and a host of loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends
