Lloydette Tate was born Lloydette Delores Austin in Mobile, Alabama, on January 1, 1952. She died on April 26, 2023.
Lloydette moved with her family to her father’s hometown of Thomasville, Georgia, in 1962. She was a trailblazer, being one of the first African American students to attend Thomasville High School (THS) during desegregation. She graduated from THS in 1970. After high school, she attended Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana, graduating in 1974. After graduation, she took a job with Proctor and Gamble as a Human Resource Specialist. Lloydette married Evis Payne and later became divorced. She later married Maurice Tate, who proceeded her in death in 2005, at which time she returned to her hometown of Thomasville, Georgia.
As a result of her marriages and career, Lloydette lived in Cincinnati, OH, Connecticut, Salt Lake City, UT, and New Orleans.
Lloydette was a loving sister and daughter. She will be missed.
Lloydette is survived by her siblings, Patrica Austin Goode, Carolyn B. Keith, Serena M. Austin, Lloyd J. Austin III, and Morris Austin. She had numerous aunts, uncle’s, nieces, nephews and cousins that will also miss her.
