After graduating from Douglas High School, he joined the United States Army where he served in The Republic of Vietnam and Fort Riley, KS. After military service, he became an Automotive Technician.

He is preceded in death by his Mother, Carrie Lee Gatlin-Monroe, Stepfather Eula B. Monroe, Father, Ravin Ealy, Siblings, Leslie Sanders, Patricia Jones, Decasta Gatlin, Emma Walden, Corene Henderson, and Madeline Monroe.
