Reflection Of Life

Brother Hamp McMillan, Jr. was born on December 4, 1938 in the Glasgow Community-Boston to the late Hamp McMillan, Sr. and Ila Massey McMillan.

He joined the Glasgow AME Church in 1947 and later moved his membership to St. Mark AME Church in 1958 under the pastorate of Rev. Adams. Hamp held several positions while at St. Mark: Steward, Trustee (Pro-Tem), Usher Board President for 30 years, Sons of Allen President, Lay President, President of the Sons of Allen for the Thomasville-Bainbridge District and Chaplain for the Sons of Allen for the South Georgia Annual Conference.

Hamp was a member of the graduating class of 1956 at the New Union High School. He was employed at Georgia Crate and Basket for 10½ years, Flowers Bakery for 5½ years, Seaboard Coastline for 13½ years, and he was in the lawn care business until his health failed him.

Brother Hamp was a lifetime member of Joppa Lodge No. 45. During his tenure in Joppa, he has been Junior Warden, Chaplain, Junior and Senior Deacon. Hamp was also a member of American Beauty Chapter No. 214. During his time, he served as Worthy Patron for 8 years. He was the founder of the Heroines of Jericho. He also served as District Patron for Thomasville District No. 10. He was the Past High Priest for 7 years for the Royal Lodge Stone Square #25. For 10 years, he was the District Deputy Inspector for Thomasville District No. 10. He was also a member of the 32nd St. Phillips Consistory.

Those left to celebrate his life and legacy are his special niece and caretaker: Rosa Lee Andrews, a host of other nieces and nephews; special friends: Lillie Mae Banks, Catherine Anderson, Janice Moody, Alfred Hill and Tommy Hill, his St. Mark Church family, and his PHA family—especially Thomasville District No. 10.
