Mrs. Dennie Bussey Adams was born on November 9, 1937 in Shellman, GA. She was the oldest daughter of the late Dennis and Ruthie Bussey. She graduated from Shellman Vocational High School. After graduation, she attended Fort Valley State College and graduated with a B.S. in Mathematics. Dennie received her M.A. degree from Morgan State University. She also did post-secondary work at Albany State University, Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, Knox College and Valdosta State University. After college, Dennie moved to Thomasville and met the love of her life Frank Herbert Adams. They were married for 34 years before his passing in 1996. Their union was blessed with two loving daughters Deborah and Kim. In 1959, Dennie began her teaching career at Magnolia High School. She also taught at Central High School, Douglass Middle School, MacIntyre Park Middle School and Southwest Georgia Technical College. Dennie taught Mathematics and touched countless lives for 42 years in the Thomas County and Thomasville City School Systems. She was also a professional instructor for Thomas University/Lambda Xi Omega Gear Up Program. She was also a member of the Fort Valley State Alumni Association, the Aquarius Club, the Georgia Retired Teachers Association and the First Missionary Baptist Church. Dennie was initiated in the Alpha Beta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. at Fort Valley State College in 1956. During her reign with her Beloved Sorority, Dennie achieved many milestones: Silver Star, Life Member, Golden Soror and most recently the status of being a Pearl Soror with 65 plus years of service to Alpha Beta Chapter (Fort Valley State College) and a charter member of Lambda Xi Omega Chapter in Thomasville, GA. She held many offices and served on various committees down through the years. Dennie was an avid reader and she cherished all her moments with the sorority’s book club. She loved traveling with her sorority sisters to her local, regional and national meetings for AKA. Anyone who knew Dennie Adams knew that she loved her family first, then her beloved Fort Valley State College and her dear Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. She truly dedicated her life to the sorority’s motto: “Service to all Mankind.” Her life and legacy will be forever remembered by her two devoted daughters Deborah Adams O’Neal and Kim Adams Wyche (Shederick)of Thomasville, GA; one brother Wayne Bussey (Brenda); four sisters Carolyn Lee, Betty Woods, Delores Bussey and Sylvia Jones all of Cleveland Ohio; 5 Grandchildren whom she loved dearly Brandon Frank and Brittney Marie O’Neal, Shederick Wyche, II., Keleah Dennei’ and Kelise Diane Wyche all of Thomasville, GA ; sister-in-law Clara Bussey, St. Mary’s, FL; brother-in-law Joseph Adams Sr., Thomasville, GA ; her lifetime friend of 68 years Delores Lewis, Thomasville, GA and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, her former students and colleagues, her Fort Valley State University family, her beloved AKA sorors, her Wright Street family and friends.
