Ecclesiastes 3:1 A TIME TO BE BORN
David Allen, Jr., was born on May 26, 1945, to the late David Allen, Sr., and the late Ruby Hopson Allen in Donaldsonville, Georgia.
A TIME TO LIVE
David was a 1964 graduate of Douglass High School. After high school, he went into the United States Army, where he did two tours of duty in the Vietnam War. He was assigned to the prestigious RECONDO (Reconnaissance Commando) where he led a skilled small unit for specialized missions. He earned a Purple Heart after being injured during those operations. He went on to serve in the US Army Reserve for an additional sixteen years. After the war, he served as Thomas County’s first Black EMT (emergency medical technician). He also served as a City of Thomasville police officer. He served in multiple capacities within both the states of Florida and Georgia, and finally retired from the City of Cairo Police Department. He served at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church and ended as chairman of the deacon board later joining Bethany Congregational United Church of Christ, serving as an elder. He was the president of Douglass High School Class of 1964 Alumni.

He leaves to mourn his passing: a loving and devoted wife, Dorothy Clark Allen; children, David Allen III (Gloria) of Jacksonville, FL, Angela Cooper, Atlanta, Ahmad R. Allen of FL, De’Andria Allen of Clearwater, FL; stepsons, Travion Clark, John Clark III of Thomasville, GA, Sean Clark of Clermont, FL; ten grandchildren; three great grandchildren; brothers, Cornelius Allen (Estella) of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Raymond James (Sandra) of McDonough, GA, Joseph Allen of Miami, FL; sisters, Annie Allen Brown of Thomasville, GA, Gertrude Thompson of Atlanta, Donna Lewis of Thomasville, GA, Renarda Faulk of Phoenix City, AL; sister-in-laws, Shirley Spencer and Tuwanda Yellock; brother-in-laws, Bobby Spencer, Patrick Williams, and Audie Williams; uncle, Jesse Bobby Allen of Tampa, FL; special nephew, Jeffrey Allen; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and sorrowing friends that loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by sister, Frances Allen Hedgewood, and brother, Isaac Allen, Sr.
