Obituary

Mrs. Bettie Allene McPherson Haugabrook was born July 4, 1934 in Tallahassee, Florida. Bettie was the daughter of the late Reverend Edward and Mamie McPherson.

At the young age of eight, she moved to Metcalf, Georgia along with her three sisters: Patience, Mamie, and Nora. Bettie was under the guardianship of her maternal uncle, the late Rev. Thomas Edward Glenn.

She attended Metcalf Elementary School and Union High School. Bettie later moved to Thomasville, Georgia and became a member of the Friendship Baptist Church. She sang in the choir. She also sang gospel with her three sisters. They were known as The McPherson Sisters.

In 1960, she moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where she met and married the late Mr. Henry Haugabrook. They were married for 44 years up until his death. She was employed by the Cleveland Clinic, where she worked as a Nursing Assistant for 35 years. She was a member of the Abyssinian Baptist Church.

In 2012, she moved back south to Suwannee, Georgia, to be with her daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren.

On Sunday, March 30, 2025, Bettie departed her earthly home to be with the Lord. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters: Patience Williams, Mamie McPherson, and Nora Gilmore; brother: Albert McPherson; and nephews: Terry McPherson, Ronald Gilmore, and Clarence Gilmore.

She leaves to cherish her memories a daughter, Jacqueline Blackmon, son-in-law, Donald Blackmon. Three grandchildren whom she adored. Candice, Tiffany, and Kirk Blackmon. Niece, San Singletary, Meredith, nephews Larry McPherson, Robert Gilmore, Howard Gilmore and Lyrance Williams. A host of great nieces and nephews.

Family would like to thank caregiver Glamer Lucky for the special love and care she gave to Bettie over the years.
