Bertha Lee (Covington) Hunter, 88, of Boston, Georgia, peacefully departed this life on Sunday, July 26, 2026, at her home, surrounded by the love of her children and grandchildren. Her life was a testament to faith, strength, compassion, and unwavering devotion to her family. She leaves behind a legacy of love, wisdom, and cherished memories that will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Bertha Lee (Covington) Hunter was born on May 7, 1938, in Waycross, Georgia, to the late Milton and Alberta Covington. She was the youngest of four children and was raised in a loving family that instilled in her the values of faith, hard work, and compassion. Bertha Lee graduated from North Boston High School in 1956, marking the beginning of a life filled with dedication to her family and community.

Mrs. Hunter devoted more than 40 years to caring for others, working as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and household manager until the age of 79. Her compassionate spirit and strong work ethic touched the lives of countless individuals throughout her career. In addition to her professional accomplishments, she faithfully served on the Boston City Council for more than a decade, demonstrating her commitment to the betterment of her community. A woman of deep faith, Mrs. Hunter was a lifelong and devoted member of St. John AME Church, where she actively served from an early age and remained a steadfast presence throughout her life.

Mrs. Hunter was united in marriage to the late Richard Hunter, with whom she shared many years of love and devotion until his passing on July 21, 2003.

She leaves to cherish her precious memory six loving children: Joyce Whitehead-Mitchell (William), Gary Covington (Suk), Jarvis Hunter, Janet Hunter, Jamey Hunter, and Jerel Hunter (Carol).

Mrs. Hunter was the proud grandmother of eleven grandchildren: Anthony Sr. (Tangela), whom she lovingly raised as her own, Regina, Kaa, Roncin Sr. (Tammy), Natassia (Nicolas), Renard Sr., Taylor, Brieana, Joshua, Jakeem, and Jamarion. Her legacy continues through her many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She also leaves behind a host of beloved nieces, nephews, godsons, goddaughters, extended family members, and dear friends, all of whom will forever cherish her love, wisdom, and enduring legacy.

Mrs. Hunter is preceded in death by sisters Ardelia Brookings, Melissa Lamons, and Mary Jane Graham.
